أجرى باحثو جامعة هارفارد الأمريكية، دراسة صادمة كشفت أن مضيفات الطيران أكثر عرضة للإصابة بمرض السرطان بين العاملات في باقي القطاعات، بحسب ما نشرت صحيفة “غارديان”.
وبحسب الدراسة التي شملت 5366 مضيفة، تبين أن واحدة من كل 7 منهن تتعرض للإصابة بهذا المرض الخبيث.
وذكرت الصحيفة بأن نسبة الإصابة بسرطان الثدي ارتفعت بنسبة 50% لدى المضيفات، مقارنة بالعاملات بمهن أخرى، حيث أن العمل على ارتفاع عال جدا عن الأرض يزيد معدل الإصابة بالإشعاع الكوني من 100 إلى 300 مرة.
وتقول الدكتورة إيرينا موردوخوفيتش قائدة الدراسة: النتائج مفاجئة وصادمة بسبب انخفاض وزن المضيفات إجمالا واضطرارهن للمحافظة على رشاقتهن، كما بسبب الإقبال على التدخين لديهن.
وأظهرت الدراسة زيادة نسب الإصابة بالسرطان لدى مضيفات الطيران خلال السنوات الأخيرة، بسبب زيادة معدلات ارتفاع الطائرات، وطول المدد التي تستغرقها الرحلات الجوية، مقارنة بالسابق.
