قال خبراء متعاونون مع الأمم المتحدة إن نظام السجون في مصر ربما يكون قد أدى بشكل مباشر إلى وفاة الرئيس السابق محمد مرسي، محذرين من أن ظروفا مشابهة تعرض صحة وحياة الآلاف من السجناء الآخرين لخطر شديد.
وأوضح الخبراء في بيان مشترك نشر عبر موقع المجلس الدولي لحقوق الإنسان الأممي ولم تعقب عليه السلطات المصرية حتى الآن، أن مرسي، الذي توفي أثناء جلسة محاكمته، “كان مسجونا في ظروف لا يمكن وصفها إلا بالوحشية، خصوصا خلال سجنه لخمس سنوات في سجن طرة”.
واستخلص فريق الخبراء الذي عمل تحت إشراف المقررة الخاصة أنييس كالامار ومجموعة عمل الأمم المتحدة المعنية بالاحتجاز التعسفي، أن وفاة مرسي التي وقعت “بعد معايشته هذه الظروف يمكن أن ترقى إلى اغتيال تعسفي بموافقة الدولة”.
وأشار الخبراء إلى وجود “أدلة موثوقة” تبعث على مخاوف من أن “آلافا من السجناء الآخرين في مصر قد يكونوا معرضين لخطر الوفاة أو التعرض لضرر بصحتهم لا يمكن إصلاحه بسبب ظروف الاحتجاز”.
