يناقش ممثلو أكثر من 60 دولة بينها الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل في المنامة، تنسيق الجهود لمواجهة إيران، المتهمة بالوقوف خلف هجمات ضد سفن ومنشآت نفطية سعودية.
وهذا أول مؤتمر دولي ينعقد في الخليج لبحث الأعمال العدائية هذه ومحاولة بلورة خطة مشتركة للتعامل مع طهران، بعدما لم تثمر الجهود الأميركية لبناء تحالف دولي في المنطقة عن نتائج واضحة.
وقال وزير الخارجية البحريني الشيخ خالد آل خليفة في افتتاح الاجتماع “علينا جميعنا أن نتبنى موقفا جماعيا (…) لاتخاذ الخطوات الضرورية لحماية بلداننا من الدول المارقة”.
والجمهورية الاسلامية غير مدعوة للمؤتمر الذي ينعقد على مدى يومين في المنامة، قبالة إيران.
وتحضر في المقابل،”إسرائيل” الاجتماع عبر وفد رسمي، رغم عدم وجود علاقات ديبلوماسية مع المملكة الخليجية الصغيرة، وذلك بعد أربعة أشهر من مشاركة “إسرائيلية” مماثلة في مؤتمر ناقش خطة سلام أميركية للنزاع الفلسطيني الإسرائيلي في المنطقة أيضا.
