أعلن برنامج الغذاء العالمي أن بوركينا فاسو ونيجيريا وجنوب السودان واليمن من المتوقع أن “تنزلق قريباً إلى المجاعة” إذا تعرضت الأوضاع هناك لمزيد من التدهور في الأشهر المقبلة.
نقلاً عن تقرير جديد أصدرته منظمة الزراعة التابعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) وبرنامج الأغذية العالمي، حذر الأخير من أن البلدان الأربعة تواجه انعدام أمن غذائي حاد.
وكشف برنامج الأغذية العالمي أنّه “تعاني بالفعل أجزاء من السكان في النقاط الساخنة الأربع الأكثر قلقًا من حالة جوع حرجة، حيث حذر التقرير من أن تصاعد الصراع بالإضافة إلى مزيد من الانخفاض في وصول المساعدات الإنسانية قد يؤدي إلى خطر المجاعة”.
وأعربت وكالة الأمم المتحدة عن أن البلدان الأربعة ليست البلدان الوحيدة، لأن “16 دولة أخرى معرضة بشكل كبير لخطر ارتفاع مستويات الجوع الحاد وشملت الدول فنزويلا وهايتي وأفغانستان وسوريا ولبنان والسودان وإثيوبيا والصومال وموزمبيق وسيراليون ومالي والنيجر والكاميرون وجمهورية إفريقيا الوسطى وجمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية وزيمبابوي”.
وقال برنامج الأغذية العالمي “إن مستويات انعدام الأمن الغذائي الحاد تصل إلى مستويات عالية جديدة على الصعيد العالمي، مدفوعة بمجموعة من العوامل”. مضيفاً أن “مزيج سام من الصراع والتدهور الاقتصادي والظواهر المناخية المتطرفة ووباء COVID-19 يدفع الناس إلى مرحلة الطوارئ من انعدام الأمن الغذائي”.
وأوضح أنّه “نحن في منعطف كارثي. مرة أخرى، نواجه خطر المجاعة في أربعة أجزاء مختلفة من العالم في نفس الوقت. عندما نعلن المجاعة، فهذا يعني أن العديد من الأرواح قد فقدت بالفعل. قالت مديرة الطوارئ في برنامج الأغذية العالمي مارغوت فان دير فيلدين “إذا انتظرنا اكتشاف ذلك بالتأكيد، فقد مات الناس بالفعل”.
وأكد برنامج الأغذية العالمي “إن الهدف من تقرير النقاط الساخنة هو إبلاغ الإجراءات العاجلة التي يمكن اتخاذها الآن لتجنب حالة طوارئ كبرى – أو سلسلة من حالات الطوارئ – في غضون ثلاثة إلى ستة أشهر من اليوم”.
