جدد مساعد وزير الخارجية الأميركي لشؤون الشرق الأدني ديفيد شينكر القول إن الولايات المتحدة لا تقدم “المساعدات للحكومة مباشرةً لأننا لا نريد أن يقع ذلك في أيدي حزب الله أو أن يفيد حزب الله بأي شكل من الأشكال، منظمة إرهابية محددة”.
وتحدث للـLBCI عن العقوبات قائلا: تتم مراجعة هذه الحزم من قبل المحامين في جميع أنحاء حكومة الولايات المتحدة وبسبب هذا المستوى أو الدقة في هذه الحزم يُنظر إليها على أنها ذات مصداقية عالية في جميع أنحاء العالم.
وأضاف: “لكن الجانب السلبي لذلك هو أنها تستغرق وقتاً طويلاً لإنتاجها وأحياناً تحتاج إلى مستشارين خارجيين”.
وأكد أن الولايات المتحدة تريد بشدة مساعدة الناس في لبنان “ونحن نفعل ذلك كل يوم من خلال المساعدة الإنسانية”. وقال: نريد أيضاً مساعدة الحكومة اللبنانية، لكن لا يمكننا مساعدة الحكومة اللبنانية إذا لم تساعد هي نفسها.
