قرر ليفربول متصدر الدوري الإنكليزي الممتاز لكرة القدم المساعدة في تقديم الطعام إلى المحتاجين وكبار السن في مجتمعه المحلي وسط أزمة فيروس كورونا بالتعاون مع كنيسة محلية. وتدير مجموعة من المتطوعين التابعين لكنيسة في أنفيلد تقع أمام مقر النادي بنكا للطعام وتطهو وجبات للناس ضمن مبادرة لخدمة المجتمع.
ويوفر حامل لقب دوري أبطال أوروبا وجبات مجانية تشمل أطعمة يتناولها البحارة في شمال أوروبا وتحظى بشعبية في مدن ساحلية مثل ليفربول.
ويساعد نادي تشيلسي أيضا منافس ليفربول في الدوري مجموعات من المحتاجين إذ أعلن النادي اللندني أنه سيوفر 78 ألف وجبة للعاملين في المجال الصحي في البلاد والجمعيات الخيرية التي تساعد كبار السن.
